Day of Silence?
The best way to learn about the Day of Silence is the visit the official website, which has all the information you could ever want. GLSEN is also a good resource for learning about the project.

Day of Silence is the one day a year where the supporters of the LGBT come together in silence to protest the silence the people of the LGBT suffer through with their sexuality. If you or your group would like to take part in the offline version of the Day of Silence, the website is the first stop. If you're interested about the online version, please keep reading.

April 12th, 2005
Tomorrow is the day for a lot of us. I sent out an e-mail yesterday reminding everyone of the event, and I hope everyone has a successful day. Everyone do take note of the information I provided in that e-mail, even if you didn't get the e-mail (and if you didn't, well, send in an update form...! Heh).

If you choose to take part in the project offline, please do remember that if you take part in a public school setting you do have rights. If at any time you are punished, singled out, threatened with suspension, etc by any school official, do get their name and call your local ACLU to find out what you can do about that treatment. Freedom of speech does not end when you walk onto public school grounds and don't let anyone convince you it does or try to take those rights away from you with empty threats. The ACLU website is at http://www.aclu.org and if you scroll to the bottom of the page, there is a link that says, "your local ACLU." If you select your state, it will give you a listing of people to contact if you have any problems.

I will be taking personal articles written by those all over the country that took part in this event. If you would like to share your Day of Silence experience, type it up and send it to me via the form here. You can share your name/website/location or you can be anonymous; it's up to you. :)

This project will undergo a redesign in May, things will be revised and signup will be started for Day of Silence 2006. This doesn't mean signup has stopped now; you can start signing up to be notified for next year today. Hope to see even more people taking part in this event. Spread the word.

Please feel free to promote the project.
